Bethesda is far from done with Fallout 76, unsurprising given 17 million people have jumped in since the Wastelanders update-

We often discuss the impressive turnaround of games like No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk, but Fallout 76 should probably be included in that discussion. While the game launched as an empty wasteland back in 2018, Bethesda has since added a ton of new features to make it feel more like, well, a Fallout game. NPCs, new locations, more fulfilling quests, iconic Fallout factions like the Brotherhood of Steel, and downright weird stuff like alien invasions. It may have suffered a torrid development, but the general consensus is that it’s now a Good Videogame.

What’s more, Bethesda is far from finished building out its Most Improved virtual son. To celebrate the end of the year, and Fallout 76’s fifth anniversary, art director Jon Rush took to the Fallout website to reflect upon the game’s successes, and outline the developer’s vision for 2024.

“We’ve come a long way since we first stepped out of the Vault into the wasteland of Appalachia,” Rush begins. “Together, 17 million player…

Larian boss says more Divinity games are coming after Baldur’s Gate 3- ‘We’re definitely gonna get back there’-

Before Larian Studios was handed the keys to the Baldur’s Gate 3 kingdom, it built its own original RPG world in the Divinity games, a sprawling series that goes back more than 20 years. And even though the studio is all-in on resurrecting one of the most famous CRPG names of all time, Larian boss Swen Vincke told IGN that it hasn’t forgotten about the Divinity games, and will return to them someday.

“It’s our own universe we built, so we’re definitely gonna get back there at some point,” Vincke said. “We’ll first finish [Baldur’s Gate 3] now, and then take a break, because we will need to refresh ourselves creatively also. You’re seeing 400 developers putting their heart and souls into this. You’re getting the best of them and their craft into this game.”

For me, this is really welcome news. I don’t want to come across as an RPG hipster but I liked Larian before Larian was cool: Eager for something to scratch the itch left by the conclusion of the Bald…

It would take a lot to get OG Fallout lead Tim Cain to return to the series- ‘The very first question out of my mouth is ‘What’s new about it-”-

With Fallout back on everyone’s minds after the success of the new show, the original game’s lead developer Tim Cain has been weighing in on different aspects of the series over on his YouTube channel. While Fallout clearly still means a lot to him, Cain didn’t seem keen to return to the series when responding to his viewers’ frequent queries.

“There’s a lot of different questions being asked there,” Cain said. “Would I want to remake Fallout as a 3D game? Are you asking if I would like to make a Fallout offshoot like Fallout: New Vegas is… Do I want to make Fallout 5?” Whatever he thinks of those respective possibilities, Cain was clear that he’s not worried about authority, creative freedom, or even pay—within reason, of course. Cain explained that his primary motivator, especially now that he’s semi-retired, is his own interest in a project.

Mass Effect- Andromeda’s creative director still wishes it had got a sequel-

Eurogamer’s interview with Mac Walters, who was a writer on all three games in the Mass Effect trilogy before becoming creative director of Mass Effect: Andromeda and then Mass Effect Legendary Edition’s project director, makes for a good read. Going all the way back to the series’ origin as “Jack Bauer in space”, it’s a revealing history of BioWare’s work on Mass Effect.

Some of the most interesting material covers Andromeda, which Walters joined late. He’d been working on Anthem along with most of BioWare Edmonton while Andromeda was being developed by BioWare Montreal, previously a support studio responsible for most of Mass Effect 2’s N7 missions, Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer, the Omega DLC, and so on. Only after Mass Effect director Casey Hudson left BioWare in 2014 was Walters moved over to work on Andromeda, so his answers mostly focus on the later stages of its development.

However, he does confirm the claim from a report on Andromeda’s troubled development that i…

2022’s best survival city builder will let you ‘customize your faith’ with a new religion system-

When survival city builder Farthest Frontier launched into early access in 2022, players noted a pretty big omission. City building games, especially those inspired by the medieval period, typically have religious buildings like churches or chapels that can be built near homes to provide a satisfaction or happiness bonus for citizens.

The lack of religious buildings in Farthest Frontier was deliberate. “If we ever incorporate a faith system of some kind, I think it would be best if it was a customizable system where you name the faith and decide its bonuses/features,” Crate Entertainment designer Zantai said at the time.

You can now dispel the “if” in that statement, because the new system is coming to Farthest Frontier in August, as revealed in a Twitch stream hosted by Zantai earlier today. In the 0.9 update, players will be able to build a massive temple in their city that will let you “customize your faith” by filling it with religious relics that give …

Narrative game studio Die Gute Fabrik has ‘halted production’ because it can’t find funding for a new project-

Indie studio Die Gute Fabrik, developer of the award-winning “mutant soap opera” Mutazione and the narrative adventure Saltsea Chronicles, has “halted production” due to an inability to find funding for its next project.

Die Gute Fabrik actually stopped work on February 19, according to the announcement, and used its “remaining runway” to give its employees a month of paid time “to catch their breaths.” The studio is still seeking funding so it can continue work, but made its situation public so employees can announce that they’re looking for new work.

“Die Gute Fabrik ApS will continue to operate to service our past IPs,” the studio said. “Production may resume under Nils Deneken as CEO should the company find funding in future years, and if so we hope to welcome back our excellent collaborators where possible.

“We’ve been making games since 2008, and are so proud of the work we’ve put out and the people we’ve made it with. Thank you for playing our games.”

Riot’s Project L fighting game finally gets a proper title, will hopefully be out sometime in 2025-

More than four years after it was first announced to the world, Riot’s League of Legends fighting game (previously known as Project L) has a proper title. It’s called 2XKO, and Riot aims to have it out in 2025.

Alongside “classic one-on-one competition,” 2XKO—which in my head is pronounced as “tooksko”—supports 2v2 co-op tag-team play, which Riot says will involve more than just calling in your partner when you’re eating a beatdown.

The game’s Fuse system, for instance, will enable different pairs of fighters match up their abilities in different ways, providing them with unique combos in matches: Pairing ultimates, for example, or performing two assist actions back-to-back instead of just one.

Riot said 2XKO will offer “faster fun” through streamlined controls and mechanics, and that it will embrace “the values and ethos of the FGC with a grassroots approach to building and connecting players to the broader fighting game community.” As previously…

Reports of RTX 4090s being sold in China without GPUs scares the heck out of me-

If you’re in the market for a second hand RTX 4090, pay attention to who you are buying it from. And where.

According to reports popping up on Chinese-language forums including Chiphell and HKEPC (Via Guru3D) some buyers are coughing up big money for Nvidia’s best gaming card, only to receive it without a GPU or memory.

Scammers are gonna scam, but there’s good reason to believe this particular one is linked with the ban on the sale of the RTX 4090 in China. It’s not a stretch to believe the AD102 GPUs of the cards in question have been removed and repurposed in order to meet some of the insatiable (and hence lucrative) demand for GPUs for AI and server applications.

A quick check over at Newegg shows the cheapest RTX 4090 is an MSI Gaming X Trio at $2,099. That makes the official RRP of $1,599 look like a bargain. And it’s all down to demand for AI GPUs and the China ban. Simply put, Nvidia can make more money from L40 and RTX 6000-series cards than it can f…
